Cavalier Women Stomp Gauchos in NCAA First Round

Lyndra Littles scored 17 points and pulled down ten rebounds, as the Cavalier women's basketball team cruised to a 86-52 win over UC Santa Barbara in first round NCAA Tournament action. It was Virginia's first NCAA Tournament game since 2005.

The Cavaliers began to pull away from the Gauchos near the end of the first half. Paulisha Kellum hit a three pointer with as time wound down in the half, as Virginia went into the locker room up nine at halftime.

The second half was all Cavs, as they consistently continued to open up the lead, ending in the 86-52 score. Virginia shot 44 percent from the floor in the game, compared to UCSB's 33 percent. Long range is where Virginia excelled the most, converting on 71 percent of its three point attempts (5-7).

In addition to Littles' 17 points, three other Wahoos posted double figures. Aisha Mohammed scored 15, in addition to her seven rebounds. Sharnee Zoll put up 13 points, as well as dished out four assists. Enonge Stovall rounded out the Cavs in double figures with ten points.

Virginia now advances to second round action, where Old Dominion awaits. The Monarchs topped Liberty in the first game in Norfolk, 82-62. ODU is 30-4 on the season, and entered the tournament ranked eleventh in the country. The Cavaliers and Monarchs will play in second round action on Tuesday, with the winner advancing to the regional semifinals in Greensboro.
