Virginia Wins 18th Straight Home Game, Tops VCU

March 25, 2008

Jake Cowan pitched five strong innings and Dan Grovatt drove in three runs, as the Cavalier baseball team topped Virginia Commonwealth, 5-3. The win extends Virginia's school record home winning streak to 18 games.

Cowan pitched well enough to earn his first collegiate win, as he lasted five innings, giving up two runs on five hits while striking out five. Michael Schwimmer pitched the final 1.1 innings to earn his seventh save of the season.

Grovatt led the Wahoos' offensive effort, posting a 1-4 day at the plate with three RBI. Virginia only managed seven hits, but took advantage of three Ram errors, and was able to hold on for the win.

Virginia improves to 20-4 with the win, and are 6-0 during its current 12 game homestand. The Cavaliers welcome George Washington to Davenport Field tomorrow evening at 5:00.
