A Storybook Ending: Zimmerman's Big Night

March 31, 2008

On Sunday the Washington Nationals celebrated Opening Day by unveiling their new $611-million stadium. All of the pomp and circumstance was there: Hall of Famer Don Sutton announced the players, there was a flyover by four F-16 jets, and President George W. Bush throwing out the first pitch. The storybook day had quite the storybook ending.

Former Cavalier Ryan Zimmerman, just beginning his third season in the Big Show, hit the game-winning homerun in the bottom of the ninth and delivered the first Opening Day win for the Nationals since the franchise moved from Montreal.

Ryan is used to being a hero. This was his fourth game-winning homer. Click the video link to see why this one was so special.
