With the departure of Jameel Sewell, Virginia's starting quarterback job is wide open, and Peter Lalich is determined to show that the job should be his. Lalich is battling fifth year senior Scott Deke for the spot this spring, and hopes to prove that he is worthy of being the starter.

As a freshman, Lalich appeared in eight games for Al Groh, throwing two touchdown passes and one interception. He saw significant playing time in the early part of 2007, and got quality game experience.

Lalich's teammates have confidence in the rising sophomore, who is making the most of spring workouts. Groh is taking all 15 workouts to size up which quarterback has the best shot.
