When the Virginia men's lacrosse team takes the field on Saturday, it will be looking to do something that it has failed to do since 2004...beat the Duke Blue Devils. The Cavaliers' ACC rivals have gotten the best of them in each of the last three meetings, and Virginia hopes that 2008 can be the year to reverse that trend.
Duke comes at opponents with experience. A slew of fifth year players return, led by Matt Danowski and Zach Greer, who make up what many consider to be the best duo ever. The Blue Devils are 11-1, having only fallen to Georgetown back on March 22. They are currently ranked number two in the nation, and are coming off a 2007 ACC Championship, and finished runner up in the NCAA Tournament.
Meanwhile, Virginia is 10-1 on the season, and ranked third, having only fallen to Maryland on March 29. The Cavaliers only have one player on their roster who was part of the team back in 2004, the last time they beat Duke, and that's goalie Bud Petit.
Face off for Saturday's contest is set for 6:00pm at Klockner Stadium.
