When Tom Santi and Jonathan Stupar departed due to graduation, it left a hole to be filled at the tight end position. Senior John Phillips has put together a solid spring, and feels that he is the man to fill those shoes.

Phillips caught a touchdown pass in limited action during Saturday's spring game, and is primed to be an integral part of Mike Groh's offense this fall. Andrew Devlin and Joe Torchia also did well, and hope to contribute in 2008 at the position as well.

As for Phillips, he showed signs of progress last season, appearing in all 13 games, and pulling down two touchdown receptions. He also played a significant role on special teams, something that Al Groh doesn't take lightly.
