Jeremy Farrell went 4-5 with a home run, and Robert Poutier had a solid performance on the mound, as the Cavalier baseball team topped Mt. St. Mary's, 11-1. The win snaps Virginia's four game losing streak.
The Cavaliers scored runs in each of the first five innings, jumping out to a 10-1 lead by the end of the fifth inning. Farrell's home run came in the bottom of the seventh, putting Virginia on top, 11-1. The first baseman finished the night 4-5 with two doubles, a home run (his ninth of the season), and two RBI.
The Virginia pitching staff also got the job done. Poutier lasted five innings, giving up just five hits and one earned run. Kevin Arico, Brad Grove, Jake Rule, and Michael Schwimer each pitched one scoreless inning of relief, and each recorded at least one strike out.
The Cavaliers now enter a ten day stretch with no games for final exams, and pick things back up again on May 9, when the Cavs begin a series with North Carolina.
