Bernie Mowbray and Zach Pitts each scored four goals, as the Albemarle boys lacrosse team topped Osbourne Park, 11-5, in the Northwest Region quarterfinals on Wednesday night. With the victory, the Patriots advance to the semifinals, and will earn a berth in the state playoffs with one more win.
Albemarle jumped out to a 6-2 lead by halftime, and used three straight goals out of the break to pad the lead. The Patriots held Osbourne Park to just three second half goals en route to the win.
The Western Albemarle boys also tasted victory on Wednesday, and earned a Region II title in the process. The Warriors dispatched Broad Run, 14-8, winning the regional championship, and earning the right to host at least one state playoff game next week.
The Warrior girls followed suit, also topping Broad Run 12-6. They also claim a Region II title, and will host a state playoff game, as well.
