Strike Out Cancer

May 30, 2008

This Sunday, some familiar faces from around Charlottesville are teaming up to strike out cancer.

The University of Virginia Medical Center's Patients and Friends Committee is sponsoring a day-long softball tournament fundraiser. The games include face-offs between local democrats and republicans, cancer doctors and radio jocks, and local media organizations, including the Charlottesville Newsplex.

The event will also feature a silent auction and former Delegate Mitch Van Yahres and radio personality Dick Mountjoy will be posthumously inducted into a Hall of Fame.

All the games are free and open to the public. The event takes place this Sunday from 12 - 5 at McIntire Park in Charlottesville. The first game starts at 1 p.m.
