The Virginia baseball team kept its season going with an 8-2 win over Rider in the Fullerton Regional on Saturday.
Andrew Carraway went 7 strong innings for the Cavaliers, giving up 2 earned runs and tying a career-high with 10 strikeouts. John Barr paced the offense with 4 hits and 2 RBI's.
The Cavaliers got out to the early lead on a sacrifice fly from Jeremy Farrell in the 3rd. One inning later, they broke through for 3 more runs to take a 4-0 lead.
Rider would get on the board in the 7th, cutting Virginia's lead in half. But Carraway would get out of the jam, and Michael Schwimer would shut down the Broncs offense for the remainder of the game. The Cavaliers also got some insurance runs in the bottom of the 8th, highlighted by a 2-run single from Barr.
Virginia will face the loser of the UCLA-Cal State Fullerton game on Sunday.
