Virginia senior midfielder Chris LaPierre will miss the remainder of the 2013 season due to a lower extremity injury, the program announced Wednesday.
"Our focus right now is to get Chris healthy," said Virginia head coach Dom Starsia. "He remains the captain of this 2013 team and we look forward to keeping him as involved in the program as conditions allow."
It is expected that the paperwork necessary to request a medical hardship enabling LaPierre to retain a year of eligibility will be filed. Per NCAA rules, such paperwork cannot be filed until the conclusion of the men's lacrosse season.
LaPierre appeared in three games this season. He has not played since limited action on March 5 against Vermont.
LaPierre has played in 54 career games for the Cavaliers and his 209 career ground balls currently places him No. 6 in the nation among active players.
