The Washington Wizards had the 18th pick in the first round of the NBA Draft, and selected JaVale McGee of Nevada. McGee left Nevada after his sophomore season, and adds some height and wingspan to the Wizards.
McGee averaged 14 points per game and 7.3 rebounds per game during the past season. He played center and forward for the Wolfpack, and provided valuable height, making himself one of the best big men in the WAC. He becomes just the second player ever from Nevada to be drafted in the first round.
Washington also had the 47th overall pick in the draft, its only selection in the second round, and chose Bill Walker of Kansas State. Later in the evening, the Wizards traded the rights to Walker to the Celtics for cash considerations.
