After finishing third at the Olympic Trials at the beginning of the month, Adam Nelson is now preparing for his third straight Olympics appearance. The Charlottesville resident will depart for China on August 3, and look to finally get over the hump and win an Olympic Gold Medal.
Nelson is no stranger to the games. In 2000, he left Sydney with a silver medal, and repeated as runner up in the Athens games of 2004. He heads to Beijing as the only returning thrower, as fellow teammates Reese Hoffa and Christian Cantwell are making their first appearances. Nelson currently holds the top throw in the world this year at 22.12 meters, and the three American competitors are the top three on the list.
Nelson will continue training in Charlottesville for the remainder of the week, and will head to Europe for a tune up meet next week. He will return to Charlottesville for one more week following his trip to Europe, before departing for China on August 3.
Don't forget, Adam Nelson is blogging for CBS19 right here on wcav.tv.
