Al Groh, John Phillips, and Clint Sintim returned from the ACC Kickoff event in Greensboro, Georgia, and will now look to fire up their team in hopes of silencing the critics. The media has predicted that Virginia will finish fifth in the Coastal Division, and the Cavaliers are used to being put in that position.
Last season, Virginia was picked to finish fourth in the division, only to go on a run and finish second behind rival Virginia Tech. The Cavs only lost conference games to NC State and Virginia Tech, and will look to pull off a similar string of upsets in 2008.
Phillips and Sintim both say that the prediction does not bother them. The Wahoos lost 18 starters from their Gator Bowl depth chart, and they do not have an established quarterback. Both seniors say that the team is used to being picked against, and the squad cannot control what other people think.
Virginia begins preseason camp on August 4, with its first game kicking off on August 30 against Southern California. Al Groh, Phillips, and Sintim all say that they are looking forward to battling to Trojans. Virginia's first conference game is September 27 at Duke.
