July 28, 2008
Virginia High School League rules stated that in 2008, teams could not begin preseason camp and organized practices until July 28. Mark Fischer listened to the rule, but had his team on the field at literally the first minute possible.
For the third straight season, Fischer and his Louisa Lions held a midnight practice, taking the field at 12:01 on Monday morning. Louisa uses this to show their enthusiasm and commitment to football, and to have some fun with the community, as fans came to watch the first practice.
The Lions are looking to get back to the glory days of 2006, when they earned a trip to the state title game, falling to Amherst. 2007 saw Louisa slip off the map a little bit, as the Lions struggled their way to a 3-7 season. This year, they feel as though their leadership is improved, and the team is primed to do some damage in the Jefferson District.
