The Cavalier football coaching staff continues to evaluate three players who are all in the hunt for the team's starting quarterback position. Peter Lalich, Scott Deke, and Marc Verica continue to get equal reps at practice, and, according to coaches and players, are all progressing well.
Offensive coordinator Mike Groh says that the team would like to decide on a starter to work with exclusively by the time the Cavaliers begin focusing exclusively on USC preparation, which will begin next week. Groh did not say whether or not the starter would be made public prior to the August 30 kickoff. Al Groh has said that the team may need to see all three play in a game before making a decision on a consistent starter.
Lalich has seen the most time of any of the three. The sophomore saw time in eight games last season, throwing for two touchdowns and one interceptions.
