August 22, 2008
Kelly Quinn scored two first half goals as the Cavalier women's soccer team topped Loyola, 4-0, to open its 2008 season. Quinn's goals came in the 37th and 45th minute, and were two successful shots in a storm of Cavalier attempts.
Virginia out-shot the Greyhounds, 26-1, and improved to 1-0 on the young season. The Cavaliers topped Loyola last season, 4-1, in the first round of the NCAA Tournament, and showed that they are once again the better team in 2008. Virginia held a 12-0 shot advantage heading into halftime, and continued to apply the pressure for the entire 90 minutes.
Lindsey Miller would score for the Cavaliers to make it a 3-0 game with six minutes to go, and Nikki Krzysik hammered home a penalty kick in the 86th minute.
The Cavaliers now have a week with no game action, and take the field against Liberty next Friday at Klockner Stadium.
