Dave Leitao and the Cavalier men's basketball team will head to Canada this weekend to take part in three exhibition games in the Montreal area. The trip not only allows Virginia to get some game experience, but allows extra practice time as well.
The Cavaliers were allowed ten days of practice leading up to the trip, and hit the court beginning August 19. Tuesday marked the first day that the freshmen could practice with the team, as they were not permitted until classes began. The lone returning senior, Mamadi Diane, will not play in any of the games, as he finishes rehab from foot surgery.
Dave Leitao says that he hopes the trip shows his players that they need to step up and fill roles, especially that of the departed Sean Singletary. The players say they also hope to bond as a group during the weekend, as they prepare for the upcoming season. Virginia opens its 2008-2009 schedule on November 16 against VMI.
