After being dismissed from the Cavalier men's basketball team on August 11, Laurynas Mikalauskas will not transfer to another school. Instead, the Lithuanian fan favorite will return to Europe in search of a professional career.
At a press conference at Blue Ridge School on Thursday, Mikalauskas said that he could not see himself transferring to another school, or playing for another college basketball team. He has hired Sports International Group as his agency, and he will look to begin a pro career in Europe.
The 6'8" forward will work out at Blue Ridge for the next month, before seeing what his options are overseas. Michael Lelchitski, Mikalauskas's agent, says that he should have his choice of what country he plays in in Europe. Mikalauskas also said that he would like to play in the 2012 Olympics for Lithuania.
Dave Leitao dismissed the forward from the team for not living up to the standards that a player must live up to. Mikalauskas said today that his scholarship had been revoked due to academic ineligibility.
