Southern California got out of the gate quickly and never looked back, scoring early and often in a 52-7 rout of Virginia in the season opener.
The Trojans scored touchdowns on their first three offensive possessions to take a 21-0 lead with just over four minutes to go in the first quarter. UVa would respond a couple minutes later though, when Mikell Simpson scored the Cavaliers first touchdown of the season on a 7 yard run. From there, it was all USC.
After taking a 24-7 halftime lead, the Trojans continued to pour it on in the second half. USC quarterback Mark Sanchez hooked up with Patrick Turner and Ronald Johnson on long touchdown passes in the third, and the Trojans would score two more touchdowns on runs from Allen Bradford and Marc Tyler in the fourth. In all, seven different Trojans scored touchdowns on the day.
Virginia falls to 0-1 on the season. The Cavaliers will try to rebound next Saturday when they host Richmond in Mike London's return to Charlottesville.
