Head coach Al Groh confirmed today that sophomore Marc Verica would be the starting quarterback for the Cavalier football team this Saturday at Duke, and most likely for the rest of the season. Groh talked about the decision during his weekly Monday interview with CBS19's Marc Davis.
The head coach says that they are pleased with Verica and that his accuracy, velocity on the ball, and overall athletic ability were all factors in the decision to permanently move him to the starting role. Groh went on to say that accuracy is the single most important thing for a quarterback.
Verica made his first start in a Virginia uniform on September 13 at Connecticut, completing 22 of 30 pass attempts for 158 yards and an interception. It marked his first real game experience, with the exception of three snaps at the end of Virginia's loss to USC, since his high school days in 2005.
