Jimmy Simpson scored two goals, but it was not enough to top Longwood, as the Cavalier men's soccer team played the Lancers to a 2-2 tie on Tuesday night. The draw puts Virginia's record at 8-4-1.
After a scoreless first half, Simpson bolstered the Cavaliers with two goals in the early stages of the second. Virginia held the 2-0 lead with less than 20 minutes remaining when the Lancers' Brian Germain found the back of the net on a header to cut the lead to 2-1. With under ten minutes to go, Nick Van Arsdale scored the tying goal. The score remained 2-2 at the end of regulation, sending the game to overtime.
After a scoreless first overtime period, the second found Virginia threatening. Jonathan Villanueva dribbled around his defenders and scored, but was the goal was called off due to a controversial offsides call, as the game ended in a 2-2 tie.
