Monticello is preparing to defend its state title, as the Mustangs begin a hopeful road to a repeat on Friday night. The Region II semifinals find Monticello hosting Briar Woods.
The Mustangs come in with a 9-1 overall record, as their only setback occurred on September 19 in a loss at Powhatan. Monticello closed out its season on Friday with a convincing win against Charlottesville, and the closest anybody else has come, with the exception of the Indians, has been Courtland, who the Mustangs edged, 23-21.
Monticello is the number two seed in Region II, and looks to battle its way back to the championship at Liberty University on December 6. Click on the above video link to hear from head coach Brud Bicknell and quarterback Michael Graham.
