Sylven Landesberg scored 22 points as the Cavalier men's basketball outlasted Radford Friday, 68-66. It marked the third straight game that Landesberg has led Virginia in scoring.
Radford went into halftime up 29-27, and the game remained close for the duration. The largest lead Virginia was able to open up was five points. The final minutes played out in nail-biting fashion, as Virginia went up by four points, but the Highlanders stormed back to take the 66-65 lead. Landesberg hit two free throws to put Virginia ahead, 67-66, with less than a minute to play. Calvin Baker hit a free throw to make the deficit two, and Radford was unable to score on the final possession.
Sammy Zelginski was the only other Virginia player in double figures, scoring eleven points. Jamil Tucker led the Cavaliers in rebounds with six.
Virginia has started out the season 3-0 for the third consecutive season, and will finish out its four game season opening homestand on Tuesday. The Cavaliers welcome Liberty to John Paul Jones Arena for a 7:00pm tip off.
