Sammy Zeglinski scored a career high 24 points and Sylven Landesberg added 17, but it was not enough, as the Cavalier men's basketball team fell to Liberty, 86-82. The loss marks the first for Virginia on the year.
The game was back and forth the entire way, as the Flames went into halftime clinging to a 35-32 lead. The second half saw more of the same, as the contest went down to the wire. Down 81-78, Virginia forced a turnover, and had two open looks from three point range in the game's final seconds, but nothing fell.
Calvin Baker scored 15 and Jeff Jones added ten points to round out the four Cavaliers in double figures. Mike Scott pulled down 17 rebounds and added nine points to fall one shy of a double double.
Liberty was led by Seth Curry and Kyle Ohman, who scored 26 points each. Anthony Smith added 21 points. Tonight marked just the second time that Virginia has fallen to the Flames in program history.
The Cavaliers hit the road for the first time this season on Friday, as they head to Syracuse to face the Orange. Tip off is set for 7:00pm at the Carrier Dome.
