Several area high school teams got their seasons underway on Tuesday night, as a full slate of games was on the schedule on the high school basketball court.
Adam Utz scored 25 points to lead the Albemarle boys past cross county rival Western Albemarle, 75-63. Andre Roberts added 21 points for the Patriots, while Ryan Hughes led the Warriors with 19 points in the losing cause.
Orange and Madison battled on the Hornets' home court on Tuesday. This one saw the Mountaineers outlast Orange, 79-73.
Omari Minor scored 19 points to lead Charlottesville, as the Black Knights topped E.C. Glass to open things up, 74-59. Kevin Leatherwood added 14 points for the Knights, who are looking for a repeat trip to states this season.
Fluvanna got 13 points from Terrell Scott to pace it past Goochland in Tuesday's season opener, 53-45. Kyle Stevens added ten points to help the Flucos earn the victory.
On the girls side, Albemarle topped Western Albemarle in Crozet, 46-37. Tamika Lewis scored 17 points for the Patriots in the win, while Caitlin Boles paced Western with ten in the loss.
Monticello and Powhatan went down to the wire Tuesday. The two teams were tied at 24 at the half and found themselves tied at the end of regulation as well. Overtime saw the Indians sneak past the Mustangs, 63-61.
Two other Jefferson District schools were in action, as William Monroe cruised past Luray, 57-39. Orange also topped Madison, 47-37.
In the private circuit, Saint Anne's Belfield found itself up ten, but fell to Collegiate, 53-51.
