Virginia head men's lacrosse coach Dom Starsia did a lot with a young squad in 2008, and this past weekend he was honored for his efforts. Starsia was named 2008 Coach of the Year by the Intercollegiate Men's Lacrosse Coaches Association.
Starsia led a young Virginia team to a 14-4 record in 2008, including a berth in the national semifinal in Foxborough, Massachusetts. The Cavaliers fell to Syracuse, the eventual national champion, in double overtime in that match up. The Cavaliers were also ACC runners-up this past season as well.
In 17 seasons at Virginia, Starsia has accumulated a 184-62 record, and has led the Cavaliers to ten final fours and three national championships. Starsia has 285 career victories in 26 seasons at Brown and Virginia, good enough for sixth on the all-time wins list.
