Several area high school football stand outs have been honored by virginiapreps.com as All-State football performers for the 2008 season.
Monticello wide receiver Jacob Pelton is an All-State first team member. Pelton pulled down 70 receptions for 1,024 yards and nine touchdowns for the Mustangs in 13 games. He also played defensive back, picking off four passes on the year. Pelton picked up place kicking duties as well during the 2008 season. He was a valuable part of Monticello's run to the state semifinals.
Louisa's Kerry Wynn also earns first team honors as a linebacker. Wynn is the 2008 Jefferson District Defensive Player of the Year, but also saw time at tight end and wide receiver. Wynn will play his college ball for Mike London and the Richmond Spiders.
Several other athletes have been named to the second team. Monticello placed four players on the team in quarterback Michael Graham, guard Wheeler Young, defensive end Jace Brady, and defensive back Marvin Mills. Orange's Quintin Hunter was also named to the second team as the overall athlete.
The Hornets' Eric Jewell and the Mustangs' Sean Winfrey were both named honorable mentions. Jewell got the nod at offensive tackle, while Winfrey earned a spot at defensive lineman.
