Tuesday marked another big night on the high school basketball court in our area, as several teams tipped off their district schedules.
The Orange boys traveled to Fluvanna for their Jefferson District opener. The Hornets and Flucos were close early on, as the score was tied at the end of one frame, but Orange managed to pull away for 61-45 victory.
Louisa and William Monroe hit the court for action as well in Mineral. The Dragons dominated from the beginning, jumping out to an 18 point halftime lead, and cruising to the 72-51 win.
Fork Union played host to Buckingham Tuesday night and put together a solid performance. The Blue Devils downed the Knights, 66-49.
Girls action saw William Monroe top Louisa by a 55-40 score. Melanie Lamb paced the Dragons with 16 points, while Bethany Leake added nine. The Lions' Raven Robinson scored a game high 20 points in Louisa's losing cause.
Ariel Stewart scored 21 points, including a game winner as time expired, as Fluvanna snuck by Orange, 53-51. K-anna Loyd chipped in a big double double, scoring 19 points and pulling down 14 rebounds.
