The Virginia women's basketball team won its ninth straight game on Sunday, beating Wake Forest 77-59 in its conference opener.
The Cavaliers trailed by as many as 16 points in the first half, but were able to cut the lead down to 8 before the break. But UVa outscored Wake Forest 46-20 in the second half, which included a 24-0 run over a span that lasted more than seven minutes.
Monica Wright led the way for Virginia with 20 points and 9 rebounds. Lyndra Littles and Aisha Mohammed were the only other Cavaliers in double-figures, finishing with 19 and 15 respectively. Wake Forest's Camille Collier led all scorers with 25 points on the day, 21 of which came in the first half.
With the win, the Cavaliers improve to 14-2 on the season, 1-0 in the ACC. They'll take on #2 North Carolina in Chapel Hill on Friday night. Tip-off is set for 8:30 pm.
