The Cavalier Men's Basketball Team takes the court on Thursday night to battle North Carolina, a team that has topped Virginia the last two times out. The Wahoos and Tar Heels went down to the wire last year, only to see the Cavaliers fall in a heart-breaker.
Back on February 12, 2008, Calvin Baker hit a three in the final minute to tie the game. Tied at 74, Virginia fouled Wayne Ellington, who went to the line for two free throws with less than three seconds to go. Ellington hit the first one, but missed the second, and North Carolina was able to tip the ball around as time expired. The Tar Heels prevailed, 75-74.
Two years ago the match up was close as well, this time in Chapel Hill. Virginia and the Tar Heels battled back and forth, with UNC coming away with the 79-69 win.
This season, the two teams look to be on very different paths. North Carolina is averaging 94.2 points per game, which leads the ACC, and is nearly 20 points better than Virginia's average. The Cavaliers are 7-6, but 1-1 in the ACC, while Carolina is 14-2, 0-2 in conference play.
