The Monticello boys basketball team hit the road to Fluvanna on Wednesday and returned with a 67-56 victory. The win pulls the Mustangs with within a half game of district leaders Western Albemarle and Charlottesville.
The contest was close early on, as Fluvanna took a 9-8 lead midway through the first quarter. That was when the Mustangs went on a run, pulling ahead 29-15 in the second quarter, but the Flucos responded. Terrell Scott's jumper as time expired in the first half cut the Monticello lead to four points, as the two teams went into halftime with the Mustangs leading, 35-31.
Monticello took control in the second half, earning its third straight victory, and improving to 4-2 overall, 3-1 in the Jefferson District. Fluvanna, meanwhile, falls to 4-9, 0-5 in district play.
Hines Banks led all scorers with 22 for the Mustangs, while Sam Roller added ten. Scott led Fluvanna with 15 points, while the Flucos get ten from Ian Fletcher in the losing effort.
