The Virginia women's basketball team suffered its first ACC loss of the season Friday night, falling at North Carolina 103-74.
Monica Wright led all scorers with 24 points, while Lyndra Littles added 21 for the Cavaliers. Aisha Mohammed was the only other Cavalier in double-figures, finishing with 13 points and 10 rebounds.
Rashanda McCants led the way for UNC with 23 points on the night, and the Tarheels got a huge lift from their bench. The Tarheels scored 54 points off the bench, while Virginia's bench only scored 13. In all, five Tarheels scored in double figures, as Carolina posted its highest point total of the season. UNC is still perfect on the season at 17-0.
With the loss, Virginia falls to 14-3 on the year, 1-1 in the ACC. The Cavaliers will try to get back on track Wednesday January 21st when they take on rival Virginia Tech. Tip-off is set for 7 pm from Blacksburg.
