The Cavalier Women's Basketball team came into Friday's contest with Florida state looking to win their second straight conference win, after defeating in-state and conference rival Virginia Tech on Wednesday. However, Florida State came into John Paul Jones Arena on a roll of their own. They are fresh off a win over Georgia Tech and are undefeated in the ACC.
Virginia did climb out to an early eight point advantage, only to see that lead slip away toward the end of the first half. After the break, with the score tied at 38, the Seminoles started to pull away from the Cavs as they stretched their lead to 13 points. Though Virginia did pull to within one point on two occasions, Florida State proved to be too much as they handed the Cavaliers their fourth loss of the season.
Monica Wright led Virginia with 24 points, Lyndra Littles chipped in 21, and Aisha Mohammed had 15 points with 8 rebounds in the loss.
Florida State managed to edge out the Cavaliers despite having three players foul out. The Seminoles improve to 17-4 on the season and 5-0 in the ACC.
Virginia is back in action on January 26th, as they travel to Death Valley to take on the Clemson Tigers.
