The UVa baseball team held its annual "Step up to the Plate" banquet tonight at Memorial Gymnasium, serving as the unofficial start to the 2009 season.
More than 700 people turned out tonight to help support the Cavaliers. The event featured dinner, silent and live auctions and a chance for fans to meet and get autographs from their favorite players. Several former Cavaliers also attended the event, including Javier Lopez and Jacob Thompson.
Phillies Manager Charlie Manuel was the keynote speaker for tonight's event. He discussed his career in baseball overseas, as well as what it's like to manage a World Championship team. The Phillies won the World Series this past season for the first time under Manuel.
