The Western Albemarle boys basketball team lost two Jefferson District contests this season, falling to Monticello and William Monroe. Since then the Warriors have avenged those two losses and have fought their way back into title contention by knocking off Charlottesville twice. With a Western win Tuesday night at Orange, both the Warriors and the Knights would have identical 10-2 district records, and decide the regular season champion in a one game playoff.
The Warriors stayed alive on Friday night, picking up a key 61-49 win against Charlottesville to sweep the season series. The two losses to Western mark the Knights' only two district losses, as they have hopes of a Jefferson District regular season title as well. Charlottesville will travel to Harrisonburg tomorrow night for a non-district showdown with the Blue Steaks, while Western visits Orange.
The Warriors hope for the same outcome as the last time they faced the Hornets. Earlier in the season Western topped Orange, 75-56, in Crozet. Tuesday marks the regular season finale for both teams.
In the event of a Western Albemarle win, the one game playoff would be played on Thursday night on a neutral court at Monticello High School. The winner of that game would earn the regular season title and a first round bye in the Jefferson District tournament.
