The Virginia men's basketball team failed to win its third straight game on Saturday, falling to NC State 72-67 in Raleigh, NC.
The Wolfpack went on an 8-0 run to start the game, and would lead by as many as 18 in the first half. But Virginia would close the gap towards the end of the half, trailing by only four points at the break.
The second half was nearly identical to the first half. NC State once again got out to a quick start, increasing its lead to 17 points. But once again Virginia would mount a comeback, led by Mamadi Diane. The senior guard did not start the game, but scored 11 points, all in the second half. Virginia would eventually cut the Wolfpack lead down to 1, but NC State would make its free throws down the stretch to hold on for the win.
With the loss, Virginia falls to 9-14 on the season, 3-9 in the ACC. The Cavaliers return home Thursday night to take on Miami. Tip-off is set for 8 pm from John Paul Jones Arena.
