The Virginia women's lacrosse team improved to 3-0 on Wednesday night, topping in-state rival Richmond, 16-7. The Cavaliers opened up a seven goal lead in the first half and ended up cruising to the nine goal win.
Virginia scored the first two goals, and took a 5-2 lead early in the first half. After Richmond tallied another goal, the Cavaliers responded with six straight scores to take the 11-3 lead. After a last minute goal by the Spiders, Virginia went into the break leading 11-4.
The second half saw the Wahoos strike quickly. The Cavs scored three goals in the first 3:33 to open up the lead to 14-4. Virginia would play conservative for the remainder of the contest, and go on for the 16-7 win.
Blair Weymouth paced the Cavaliers with five goals on the night, while Ashley McCulloch chipped in three goals and three assists. Virginia is back in action on Friday afternoon as the Cavaliers travel to second ranked Syracuse.
