The Virginia baseball team scored six runs in the first three innings and held off Fordham for the 6-2 win Friday afternoon. The contest opened up a four game weekend series with the Rams and Delaware.
On the mound, Virginia got a solid performance from freshman Danny Hultzen. Hultzen threw six innings of solid baseball, giving up two runs, though neither of them were earned. He also struck out 12 batters in his six innings of work.
The Cavaliers got some good performances at the plate as well. Virginia scored three runs in the first inning and three runs in the third inning to complete its scoring early. Steven Proscia and Franco Valdes each went 2-for-4 with an RBI on the afternoon. Proscia added a double, while Valdes notched two two-baggers in the game.
With the win, Virginia improves to 6-0 on the season. They continue their series Friday at 5:00 against Delaware, and will face Fordham again Saturday at 12:00pm.
