Cavalier guard Sylven Landesberg is the 2009 ACC Rookie of the Year. Landesberg won the honor by a landslide, receiving 55 votes. Wake Forest's Al-Farouq Aminu finished second in the voting with 20 votes.
Landesberg is averaging 16.8 points per game this season, good enough for ninth in the ACC, and the mark leads all conference freshmen. He has posted 22 double-digit scoring performances along with 12 games scoring 20 points or more, which marks a Virginia freshman record.
Landesberg was named ACC Rookie of the week six times during the regular season, which is tied for third in conference history. In addition to scoring, he leads all ACC rookies in minutes per game, and is third in rebounds and assists.
The rookie sensation joins Ralph Sampson, Bryant Stith, and Chris Williams as the only Cavaliers to be named ACC Rookie of the Year. Williams was the last Virginia player to earn the honor back in 1999.
Landesberg and the Cavaliers open up ACC Tournament play Thursday night against Boston College. Tip off is set for 9:00pm.
