The Virginia women's basketball team has earned the number five seed in the Trenton Region and will travel to Los Angeles for first and second round action. The Cavaliers open up with 12th seeded Marist on Saturday night in the first round.
Virginia enters with a 23-9 overall record. The Cavaliers will take the court after falling to Duke in the ACC quarterfinals. Marist enters as the champions out of the MAAC, and Debbie Ryan expects a tough test from the Red Foxes.
Last season, Virginia was unable to advance to the round of 16, after falling to Old Dominion in overtime in the second round. This time around, the Cavaliers would face fourth seeded California with a win against Marist. Connecticut is the number one seed in the Trenton Region, and if the Huskies and Cavaliers both win their first two games. The two would meet. UConn is the tournaments number one overall seed at 33-0.
