Cavaliers React to Dave Leitao's Resignation

March 17, 2009

For the first time since the news of Dave Leitao's resignation on Monday, members of the Cavalier men's basketball team spoke out on Tuesday. Jeff Jones, Sammy Zeglinski, and Sylven Landesberg convened today.

The four Cavaliers all expressed their disappointment in the recent events, saying that they did not see it coming. They also spoke about looking ahead and being ready to go for whoever is named their new head coach. Zeglinski was Leitao's first recruit and thanked him publicly for the opportunities on Tuesday, while the other three had nothing but good things to say about their former leader as well.

All four players also expressed that they plan on returning to Virginia next year. " I also came here to play for this school, " Landesberg said, " so I definitely will be coming back. I don't think transferring or anything is on my mind."

"I'm definitely staying," added Mike Scott, "we all have a team to lead, you know, I personally have a team to lead, so leaving is definitely not an option in my book."

The players also talked about how they felt Leitao was unfairly criticized and did not expect his resignation.
