The Cavalier women's lacrosse team did something Saturday afternoon which they we're not able to do in their last four games, score first. Whitaker Hagerman scored the first goal of the contest less than one-minute into the start of the game.
However, after the opening score Princeton decided to turn it up. The Tigers went up by as much as three goals in the opening period, and entered the half with a 6-4 lead. After the break, Virginia had some work to do, and Brittany Kalkstein answered the call. Kalkstein netted two goals in two consecutive possessions for the Cavaliers to tie the game at six. Princeton would not be denied. A clutch goal from Christine Casaceli put the icing on the cake for the Tigers, and walked away with an 8-7 win.
With the loss, Virginia falls to 6-4 on the year. They'll try to rebound as they travel to James Madison to take on the Dukes on Tuesday.
