Anthony Grant has been named the next head men's basketball coach at the University of Alabama. The former VCU coach made his decision Friday evening.

Grant was thought to be on Virginia's wish list, but takes his act to Tuscaloosa. Crimson Tide officials were in Richmond last weekend to talk to the Rams' head coach, and Grant made the trip to Alabama on Wednesday to tour the campus and basketball facilities. It was during that day of touring when Alabama reportedly offered Grant the job.

There was some speculation that Grant would want to return to Florida if Billy Donovan departed to take another head coaching job. Grant was an assistant at Florida under Donovan before departing for VCU.

If Grant was in fact on Virginia's list, it really did not come up much this week nationally. He seemed to have it narrowed down to the Tide or the Gators, and will take the reigns of the Alabama program.
