The Cavalier baseball team used solid bats and great pitching to shut down Stony Brook, 8-0, in the first of a two game series. Virginia's record improves to 27-5, as the Wahoos are now 19-0 against non-conference opponents this season.
Jarrett Parker and Phil Gosselin led the charge for Virginia offensively. Parker went 2-4 with a home run and 4 RBI, while Gosselin went 2-3 at the plate, knocking in two runs. Tyler Biddix and John Barr also tallied two hits each, as Virginia pounded out eleven hits as a team.
Robert Poutier had an exceptional performance on the mound, winning his third straight start. The senior tossed five innings of shutout ball, giving up five hits and striking out eight. Sophomore Robert Morey came on in relief and pitched a career high four innings, giving up no runs and striking out seven. His seven strikeouts also marked a career high.
The Cavaliers and Seawolves conclude their two game series on Wednesday evening. First pitch is slated for 6:00pm.
