43-Year-Old QB Leads Silverbacks

July 26, 2011

43-year-old quarterback Jamie Davis has helped the Virginia Silverbacks semi-pro football team get off to a 3-0 start this season.

Davis is a Charlottesville High School alum who has played professionally in Switzerland and Spain. This past Saturday, Davis threw for three touchdowns in the Silverbacks' 24-6 win over Fredericksburg.

Davis says he didn't think he would still be playing football at age 43, but the opportunity to play in front of family and friends was one he couldn't pass up.

"Two years ago, I retired from semi-pro (football)," said Davis. "But once we got this team together, I said I want to play one more year because it's here at home."

Davis and the Silverbacks will look to stay undefeated when they hit the road to take on the Richmond Ravens July 30th. The Silverbacks will return home on August 20th for a game with the Virginia Steelers.

The Silverbacks play all home games at Monticello High School. Tickets are $10. Find out more information about the team on its Facebook page.
