The Virginia baseball team took advantage of nine NC State errors and beat the Wolfpack 6-2 in the series opener.
Both starting pitchers did not give up a hit through three innings, but the Cavaliers would get to NC State's Jimmy Gillheeney in the 4th. Jared King hit a soft liner up the middle scoring one run, and then another runner came in on a throwing error. Franco Valdes followed that up with a sharp grounder which shortstop Dallas Poulk was unable to handle, allowing King to score the Cavaliers third run.
That would turn out to be the all the run support that Virginia starter Danny Hultzen would need. Hultzen went 5.1 innings, giving up two earned runs while striking out nine to pick up the win. He is now 6-0 on the season.
Virginia will try to take the series with NC State tomorrow. First pitch is set for 1 pm from Davenport Field.
