Saturday was probably the most humid and hot day of the year so far here in central VA. The Cavaliers need to experience those types of conditions if they want to succeed in the long run in the NCAA Tournament in College Station, Texas.
The Cavs took another step closer to that goal on Saturday afternoon as they took care of ACC rival UNC in the second round of the tournament, 4-0. The match didn't start off that easy, however. The Tar Heels managed to squeak in a doubles match victory Dominic Inglot and Michael Shabaz fell 8-3 in number one doubles. The teams of Sanam Singh and Houston Barrick and Drew Courtney and Lee Singer provided some relief. Both teams won their respective matches and the Cavs took the doubles point.
In singles play, Shabaz wasted no time getting the Cavaliers their second point of the afternoon as he won in straight sets; 6-2,6-1. Drew Courtney and Sanam Singh followed with straight set wins of their own to notch the Cavaliers another victory to remain undefeated, and advance to College Station for the round of sixteen in the NCAA Tournament.
Virginia will now face another ACC rival in Florida State in the Sweet Sixteen of the NCAA Tournament which will take place at 1 p.m. eastern time on the campus of Texas A&M University.
