Cavaliers Clobber Duke in Series Finale

The Virginia baseball team closed out its series with Duke in style Sunday afternoon, beating the Blue Devils 12-1 in the series finale.

The game was tied at one in the third until John Hicks blasted a three-run home run into the left-field bleachers, his fifth home run of the year. The Cavaliers then plated three more runs in the sixth inning to take a 7-1 lead, but the offense still wasn't done for the day. In the seventh inning, Jarrett Parker stepped to the plate with the bases loaded and hit a grand slam to put the game away for Virginia. It was his first career grand slam and his 14th home run of the season.

Parker ended up going 4-6 with a career-high five RBI's on the day. The Cavaliers also got a strong outing from starting pitcher Robert Morey, who pitched seven strong innings, giving up only one earned run and striking out five to earn his second win of the season.

With the win, Virginia improves to 37-10-1 on the season, 15-9-1 in the ACC. The Cavaliers will play their final home game of the regular season Tuesday night against VCU. First pitch is set for 7 pm from Davenport Field.
