The Cavalier baseball team will close out its regular season with a three game series against arch rival Virginia Tech beginning on Thursday in Blacksburg. The Cavs enter the series just two victories shy of the 40 win mark and look to take another step towards that plateau Thursday evening.
Virginia enters the series just one game behind Georgia Tech for the ACC Coastal Division lead. The Cavaliers are 15-9-1 and took two of three from Duke in its last conference series. Brian O'Connor's squad enters Thursday's contest with a 38-10-1 overall record.
Virginia Tech comes in with a 30-20 overall record, 10-16 in the ACC. The Hokies still have a very outside shot at a conference tournament berth. They can get into the event with a sweep of Virginia, along with Duke or Boston College being swept as well.
The Cavaliers come in having won the last 12 meetings between the two teams, dating back to April of 2003. This includes last year's sweep at Davenport Field. Danny Hultzen will take the mound in Thursday's opener. The freshman southpaw is coming off his first loss of the season, which he suffered this past Friday against Duke.
First pitch for Thursday's opener is set for 5:30pm.
